Why make your own salad dressing?
There are several reasons why you might want to consider making your own salad dressing instead of relying on store-bought options:
- Control ingredients: You can avoid unhealthy additives, preservatives, and hidden sugars often found in commercially prepared dressings.
- Customize to your taste: Tailor the flavors to your preferences with different oils. You can also control the sweetness.
- Healthier fats: Choose high-quality olive oil or avocado oil for a source of healthy fats.
- Lower sodium: Control the salt content compared to store-bought dressings, which can be high in sodium.
- Made with fresh ingredients: Homemade dressings offer a better taste compared to pre-made dressings that may sit on shelves for long periods of time.
Overall, making your own salad dressing offers a way to take control of your health, experiment with flavors.
What You’ll Need:
Plain Greek Yogurt- You can use full-fat or low-fat, either one is great.
NOTE: Don’t like Greek yogurt? Use half yogurt and half mayo or you can swap it out completely for sour cream.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil- or other oil of your choice. I prefer the flavor profile of olive oil but any neutral oil will also work great.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Maple Syrup- Use the real deal. You can also adjust the sweetness to your preference. If you prefer, you can use honey as an equal swap.
Dijon Mustard– There is really no other substitute that works other than Spicy Brown Mustard.
Salt & Pepper to taste
More Than Just a Dressing…
This isn’t just your average condiment. It’ really is flavor powerhouse. The best of both worlds, with a sweet richness of maple syrup and the tangy bite of Dijon mustard, all swirled into creamy Greek yogurt. This dressing is not only perfect for salads and fantastic drizzled on roasted vegetables, but it is a top notch marinade for chicken.
Here are just a few ways to get creative:
- Marinade: Coat chicken or pork in this delicious mixture for a flavorful meal either grilled, in the oven, or your air-fryer.
- Roasted Veggies: Drizzle as a sauce over roasted vegetables for a sweet and tangy glaze.
- Sandwich Upgrade: Spread it on bread for a gourmet-inspired sandwich to rival any corner shop.
- The Perfect Dip: Use it as a dip for fresh vegetables or crackers for snack time or add it to a charcuterie tray. If it is too thin of a consistency, just reduce the apple cider vinegar as needed.
- Sweet Sauce: Dress up pasta dishes or rice bowls with a drizzle of creamy goodness.
- Extraordinary Salads: Toss your favorite greens with this dressing and add a protein like grilled chicken, salmon, or tofu for a complete meal.
Customize it!
The best part? This recipe is your canvas. Adjust the sweetness with more or less maple syrup, or add a spicy kick with a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes for bit of heat. Experiment with different herbs like thyme or rosemary to dress it up. Be mindful if you are using chili flakes or herbs with a squeeze bottle that you may need to store it in a different container for serving.
