The BEST Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

These sweet pulled pork sandwiches with a touch of spice are sure to be a hit. Top it off with extra sauce and a handful of shredded cabbage for crunch. Get creative and serve it over rice with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, & cilantro for a pulled pork bowl.

Equipment

  • 1 Slow Cooker 6 quart

Ingredients
  

  • 1 4-5 lb. pork shoulder, bone-in
  • 1/4 cup BBQ rub
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 12 oz. can of Dr. Pepper, Root Beer, or Coca-Cola, can be swapped for pineapple OR orange juice.
  • 3 tablespoons canned chipotle sauce
  • 1 18 ounce bottle of BBQ sauce
  • shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix, optional

Instructions
 

  • Sprinkle the BBQ rub all over the pork shoulder and place into the slow cooker.
  • Toss in the sliced onions, add the chipotle, and pour the soda (or juice) around the sides of the pork.
  • Set your crockpot to high and cook for 8-10 hours.
  • When done cooking, drain most of the liquid out and shred the pork with 2 forks. Mix in about half of the bottle of your bbq sauce and serve on buns or thick sliced bread.
    Top off with extra sauce and the coleslaw mix. Enjoy!
